Introduction

During fall and spring reading periods and final examinations, access to the Law Library is restricted so that UIC Law students can study and take exams. Only UIC Law and UIC students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and licensed Illinois attorneys members are permitted to enter the Law Library during these times.

Access Group Information: Alumni(Required)

UIC School of Law and John Marshall Law School alumni must present a government-issued photo ID at the School of Law security desk. Security staff will verify their alumni status. UIC and John Marshall Law School alumni may only borrow materials from the law library with a UIC alumni borrowing card. Visitors may be asked to sign in and out with UIC Law Campus Safety & Security at the 300 S. State St. security desk. The names of all guests and visitors will be entered into UIC Law’s visitor database.

Access Group Information: Illinois Lawyers(Required)

Licensed lawyers must present a current Illinois ARDC card and a government-issued photo ID. Visitors may be asked to sign in and out with UIC Law Campus Safety & Security at the 300 S. State St. security desk. The names of all guests and visitors will be entered into UIC Law’s visitor database.

Access Group Information: I-Share or CARLI Member Library(Required)

Students, faculty, and staff who are permitted access under this policy because they are at an institution that is part of the I-Share system or the CARLI Governing Libraries system must present a current school-issued photo ID. You also must have already contacted the Law Library's interlibrary loan coordinator to ensure the book you are requesting is available and can circulate. Visitors may be asked to sign in and out with UIC Law Campus Safety & Security at the 300 S. State St. security desk. The names of all guests and visitors will be entered into UIC Law’s visitor database.

Access Group Information: Public Access to FDLP(Required)

The Law Library is a selective member of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). Members of the public may access the Law Library to view just this limited collection of items. You should indicate which part of the collection you plan to access. You will need to provide a valid ID at the Security desk. You will be directed to a law librarian on the 6th floor who will help you access the information you identify. Visitors may be asked to sign in and out with UIC Law Campus Safety & Security at the 300 S. State St. security desk. The names of all guests and visitors will be entered into UIC Law’s visitor database.
