Interlibrary Loan

UIC School of Law faculty and students may request materials that the Law Library doesn’t hold in its collection from libraries throughout the state of Illinois using the Illinois I-Share System. In addition, items not available through the I-Share system may be requested from libraries across the country via the traditional interlibrary loan process. Please contact the Law Library’s Interlibrary Loan Coordinator, Catrina Williams, with information about the item you need (e.g., title, author, publication name, year, etc.) to begin the process.

ILL services are available to UIC Law students, faculty and staff.

You can make an ILL request using WorldCat or the Law Library’s catalog. ILL requests can also be sent to Catrina Williams.

We encourage the law journal editors to use the ILL service to fulfill their information needs. Each journal should have a designated person who makes ILL requests on behalf of the journal. If you have questions as a journal editor, contact Instructional & Student Services Librarian Philip Johnson.

UIC School of Law patrons may request books that are identified as circulating or loanable by the library that owns the item. You can also request photocopies of journal and newspaper articles. Reference books and books on reserve, rare books, loose-leaf volumes, multi-volume sets, textbooks, study guides, CD-ROMs, and DVDs typically do not circulate and cannot be loaned.

The average turnaround time for an item is two weeks. This will vary depending on the lending library so please be sure to request items well in advance of any deadline you have.

When your ILL item has arrived, you will receive an email indicating that is available for pick-up at the UIC Law library Circulation desk, on the 6th floor of the State Street building. Photocopies of articles are yours to keep. Some articles will be emailed to you directly.

The time that you may keep an item will vary by the rules set by the library that is lending the item to the Law Library. Due dates will be clearly indicated on each ILL item. Renewals are also determined by the lending library. Be sure to request renewals well in advance of the due date. Any late fees or replacement charges are your responsibility.

Eligible patrons may request an item directly fromĀ WorldCat. Once you have found the item you seek, you will be able to see a list of libraries that own the item. You can also see what ILL options are available by clicking the View Access Options button. If the item is available for interlibrary loan, you will be able to fill out a form that will notify us of your request.

Materials available at other nearby law libraries may be viewed by eligible patrons within that library, but not checked out and taken away. If you want to borrow an item, you must request it via the ILL process.
